Happy Kids

General Information
	Happy Kids Education is a bilingual nursery (Swedish, English) for children aged 1 to 6 years.
	We follow the Swedish national curriculum for preschool education (Lpfö 98).
	We have smallgroups, each with 10-15 children and 2-3 teachers (ca 100 children and 20 teachers).
	The nursery is situated in well lit and practical premises in Kållered, which is an easy place to get to by bus, train or car.
	Happy Kids Education opened in April 2006.

+ Don't touch my friend

Don't touch my friend - We work with all aspects of children and their development and place great emphasis on social skills. When children develop socially they learn to take part in group activities, follow instructions, wait for their turn, collaborate and share. They learn how to be good leaders and good team mates. We use Second Step, a conflict solving system aimed at building the childrens' self-esteem and confidence. The children learn how to be a good friend and to understand how their own behaviour could affect other people. We think it is important that everybody at Happy Kids shows regard for other people, acts with generosity, tolerance and consideration, is able to tell right from wrong and to work alone and in a group.

+ All people are kind, all food is good

All people are kind, all food is good - All children are welcome at Happy Kids. We have children with many different backgrounds and languages and we want the children to develop an understanding of ethnic diversity and tolerance. Children, parents and teachers share their traditions and together we celebrate many festivals. At Happy Kids Halloween and the Chinese New Year are just as important as the Swedish Midsummer.

I can do, I will, I do - It is obvious to us that we should take off from each child's own curiosity, unique possibilities and zest for learning, in order to inspire the children to get to know themselves and their environment. To help each child develop along with their own abilities, the children are divided into groups according to developmental stage. Each group has their own room. There are also shared areas, e.g. a large playroom with "a royal hall", fancy costumes, a stage and an apartment, providing lots of opportunity for imaginative games and role play. In our arts workshop the children can to do anything from drawing with pens to messing around with finger paints and modelling clay.

+ Fresh air makes healthy children

Fresh air makes healthy children - Fresh air is important, as are extensive areas that invite the children to physical activity, which is why we spend time outdoors at least once a day. We have a magnificent outdoor environment with a large playground without a car in sight and great fields and wooded areas are our closest neighbours. The children often make shorter outings into the near surroundings and sometimes venture further to for instance Slottsskogen, the Botanic gardens, a library or a museum. We also have a sheltered vegetable patch where the children help planting and watch the plants grow. If you are in luck you might try a radish or some other treat.

+ Role model, friend and big hug

Role model, friend and big hug - Our teachers are men and women of varying ages and from many different parts of the world. We place great emphasis on their competence and in addition to the education and experience they have when they join us, they continuously get additional education, in e.g. Second Step, first aid etc. In order to give our staff an opportunity to develop their skills we close two days per term.

+ Children's day - Open 6:30am - 5:30pm

Children's day - The nursery is open every non-holiday weekday from 6.30am to 5.30pm, apart from four weeks in July when we close for summer holidays. You choose when to drop and pick up your children, but we would be grateful to have them here between 9am and 3pm, when most of the scheduled educational acitivities take place. Every month we run a theme, to which the activities are linked, e.g. colours, snow or the days of the week. Happy Kids serves a snack both in the morning and in the afternoon. Lunch is eaten together with their group friends and teachers. Inset days for the staff might affect the opening hours to some extent (two days per term).
